The
existing retention pond was badly eroded, not meeting code requirements for
slopes. Large areas of unvegetated banks presented an unattractive view to the
residents of the nursing home facility. Roy-Fisher Associates, Inc. convinced
the hospital staff to apply for a grant from the Town of Jupiter to improve
water quality. The successful grant application funded maintenance grading and
bioengineering planting techniques to hold the slopes. Water quality was improved
because erosion was reduced. The result was a pleasant area for the residents,
their families and nursing home staff to observe turtles sunning on rocks and
wading birds. Flowering littoral plantings create a pleasant pond environment.
